The COmpact™ Smokerlyzer® breath carbon monoxide
tester offers the opportunity for health professionals and
associated practitioners with limited budgets to offer breath
testing as part of their smoking intervention.
The COmpact™ Smokerlyzer® gives an indication of
smoking status through seven level indicators using the familiar
red, amber and green traffic light system. This tester is ideal for
brief interventions in a variety of different settings, including
pharmacies, schools and health visiting services, allowing cost
effective CO breath testing to be available to a much wider
audience.
The test can be used as a starting point for a referral to a specialized stop smoking service. As part of routine screening, the COmpact can also be used to identify undetected cases of CO poisoning.
Quit Smoking health professionals will still want to use the advanced features of Bedfont’s existing Smokerlyzer® family of monitors. However, the COmpact™ Smokerlyzer® allows cost effective CO breath testing to be made available to a much wider audience.

Consumables
Bedfont
Scientific supplies a range of consumables to
complement your COmpact™ Smokerlyzer. It is recommended that
you use Bedfont consumables for optimum performance from
your monitor.
Flatpak Mouthpieces
These mouthpieces take up less than a tenth of the space of normal cardboard mouthpieces and can easily be carried around. They are also packed in batches of 25 to reduce handling and the risk of cross-infection and are available in boxes of 250. It is essential that a new mouthpiece is used for every test carried out.
D-pieces
The D-piece is used to attach the Flatpak mouthpiece to the tester and incorporates a one-way valve and infection control filter, proven to remove and trap >99.9% of airborne bacteria1. The D-piece should be changed at least once a month or sooner if visibly soiled.
Instrument Cleansing Wipes
Bedfont Scientific provides instrument cleansing wipes for the
instrument and external D-piece surfaces.
Cleaning products containing alcohol should never be used,
as they could affect the accuracy of the instrument. It is
recommended that wipes are used for one surface only.

1. Flatpak Mouthpieces

The first accessory is the cardboard disposable mouthpieces, packaged
250 per box. They are disposed of after use on each subject. The
cardboard disposable mouthpieces are manufactured and packaged under
"clean room conditions" which ultimately means a cleaner, more hygienic
product.
2. D-piece Valves

The
second accessory is the D-piece one-way valve sampling system, which is
proven to remove and trap >99.9% of airborne bacteria. The
cardboard disposable mouthpiece hooks onto this valve and it allows for
one-way breathing. The subject can exhale through the valve but
cannot inhale, which helps to keep the test hygienic. The valve
can be used multiple times on multiple subjects. The D-piece
should be replaced every 30 days or if visibly soiled. Your monitor
cannot be used without this item and you will eventually need to replace
it, so it is helpful to have extra on hand.
3. Bedfont Wipes

alcohol-free cleansing wipes are specifically engineered to be used for
the cleaning of Bedfont monitors and accessories. Bedfont wipes were
developed to be alcohol-free because alcohol will interfere with the
sensor. We
recommend this product for anyone handling the monitor to assure the
highest level of infection control. Effective against 99.999% of
Germs, Spores, Bacteria, and Fungi. Tested against H5N1 Avian Flu
and H1N1 Swine Flu.
